When the founder Magokichi Yamaoka first started working as a planter and harvester of rice he discovered the available options around for the agriculture society to be unworkable. The engines for the agricultural use in the early 20th century burned oil excessively and were extremely heavy and difficult to start. With no hope on things becoming easier and more efficient he decided to do something about it. In 1933 he designed the world's first small diesel engine with a cold-start. It was from then on that the company and their innovative ways flourished. Now more than 100 years later the company Yanmar still strives to develop products that not only get the job done, but also do it without harming mother nature.
